‘Working on a dig is fun but then it all needs archiving’
Shards. Lots and lots of shards. Bits of broken pots, bowls, vases, glasses. And the odd statue of a saint, book cover, some jewelry... All unearthed from the septic tank at the ancient grammar school in Tiel. And that's when the real work starts, to identify and describe all the finds. 'Otherwise you might just as well leave it in the ground', says Willem Spekking, senior research assistant at Biobased Products, who sifts through box after box with the patience of a saint.
