Waiting for the bus

The high-quality public transport (HOV) bus line will run through the campus from next October after all.

After years of preparation, work will start start early next month on the new dedicated bus track on campus. The first step is the felling of 214 trees in the Dassenbos wood opposite Rikilt. To compensate for the loss, new trees will be planted next to the Dassenbos but further west. The planned tree felling led to a lot of delays because of objections from the environmental group Wagenings Milieu Overleg (WMO). Ad van der Have of Facilities and Services says that issue has now been resolved. The bus track will run along the north side of Akkermaalsbos, cross the Bornsesteeg and then run parallel to Bronland past Orion.

There will be a raised section with flashing lights where it crosses the busy Bornsesteeg bike path. The crossing will be constructed during the summer holidays to minimize the nuisance. The new HOV line will get three stops on or close to campus. The first will be on the Mansholtlaan near Atlas. The current stop on the other side of the roundabout will be shifted there. The second stop will be at Forum in the middle of the campus. The third stop will be on the west side of the campus towards Noord-West.

There will be an informational evening about the bus line in Impulse on Thursday, 13 February from 19.30 to 21.30.
