Foreign students learn about Dutch-Belgian river management disputes

The quarrels and misunderstandings between the Dutch and Belgians form an
interesting phenomenon, a typical example being when it comes to the
management of rivers and other waters that they share. The Water Resources
Department in Wageningen developed an original course so that foreign
students can get a taste of the Dutch-Belgian struggles.

“We confront our students with the problems concerning the Schelde, a river
that flows from France through Belgium and ends up in the coastal waters of
the Netherlands. The Dutch and Belgians have been quarrelling about the
measures to be taken in this river for decades,
