Wageningen scientists: 'Dijkhuizen is playing at politics'

Aalt Dijkhuizen's plea on behalf of intensive livestock farming is not based on a scientific consensus. There are many different views, even in Wageningen, say nine Wageningen scientists in an opinion piece today in Trouw newspaper in response to the statements by the Board Chairman.

In the article, the scientists criticize Dijkhuizen for not acknowledging the complexity of the global food problem and for making political choices dressed up as science. 'By doing this he is alienating a section of Dutch society and he is forcing a large part of own academic staff in a straitjacket that is not appropriate for a university.'
