The Chinese Shanghai Jiao Tong University published a list of the top 500 universities in the world this month. Wageningen shares the 152nd place with a number of other universities in the world rankings, and 53rd place among the European universities. Points are allotted to the universities on the basis of the number of Nobel Prize winners, frequently cited researchers, publications in Nature or Science, citation-index and academic performance. Top of the list is Harvard, and in fifth position Cambridge is the top European university. There is no ranking for different disciplines, but Wageningen comes higher than its two biggest European competitors for agricultural sciences, the University of Montpellier (France) and Reading in England.
