Wageningen earns ECTS label

The European Commission has awarded Wageningen University its ECTS label for transparency and quality of its teaching programme. This is regarded as recognition of the international character of the university. Wageningen is the first university in the Netherlands that fulfils the requirements for the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), which is intended to increase the mobility of students within Europe. The ECTS checks that transfer of study points and study programmes are described in the same way, making it easier for European students to follow parts of their degree courses in other countries. Of the 56 institutes that applied for recognition only three were selected; last year eleven institutes received ECTS recognition. So far there are no top institutions among the label holders, such as Oxford or Cambridge. Wageningen can use the label for three years, after which it must be re-evaluated. / JH
