Update

Fresco critical
Louise Fresco is leaving the FAO in Rome out of disappointment. According to her, the food and agriculture organisation is bureaucratic and she is severely critical of the management, which is not capable of dealing with the crisis at the FAO. She writes this in her letter of resignation to FAO boss Diouf, which was leaked to the British newspaper The Guardian. In her letter Fresco is also critical of Diouf himself, writing that he has created a culture of ‘silence, rumours and even fear’. For the full version of Fresco’s letter of resignation see the website of The Guardian / KV

Core values
The Executive Board wants Wageningen UR to decide on its ‘core values’. Employees and students have been invited to take part in the discussion via intranet on the words that best describe the soul of Wageningen UR. The hot contenders so far: socially relevant, enterprising and innovative, reliable, collaborative, learn and improve, content-driven and customer-oriented. / KV

Furnished rooms
Wageningen UR has signed a new long-term contract with accommodation office SSHW for rooms for international students. SSHW will reserve 950 furnished rooms for this group for the coming ten years. Wageningen UR will cover the costs of any rooms that remain empty. The number of furnished rooms can be supplemented with unfurnished rooms if necessary. The numbers required will be assessed each year in April. This year about one hundred extra unfurnished rooms are required. / JH

University quiz
The three students representing Wageningen in the TV University Quiz 2006 faced their opponents from Leiden on Thursday 11 May during the recordings for the last broadcast in the series. The students were accompanied by a bus full of Wageningen supporters. They underwent four rounds to test their general knowledge, knowledge in their own subject area, their powers of rhetoric and their physical condition. The programme will be shown on 22 May at 21:20 on Nederland 3. / MV
