Tropical series

University libraries in developing countries are often in a bad way, with out-of-date books. As a result they lack the foundations for good education and research. A series of Wageningen publications that are distributed free in the tropics goes some way to helping the problem. The fiftieth edition of the series was published on Tuesday, and the event was celebrated with a presentation and a drink. The series, ‘Tropical resource management papers’ consisting mainly of PhD theses, is produced in print-runs of 300, and half of these are sent free of charge to research institutions, especially in Africa. / JT
