Trap for bedbugs

The Dijkgraaf student residence in Wageningen is suffering a plague of bedbugs.

Last week, student housing provider Idealis had the building treated to combat the bloodsuckers. To check whether the treatment has worked, special bedbug traps have now been put in place. Last year there was a bedbug outbreak in the Dijgraaf too, but on that occasion it was limited to one unit.
Bedbugs hide in cracks in walls and come out at night to feast on the blood of sleeping residents. The insect seemed for a while to have disappeared but has been making a comeback over recent years. Hotels in New York, Amsterdam and Brussel are regularly faced with bedbug plagues.
