Test farm supplies natural gas network

Experimental farm De Marke in Hengelo (in the province of Gelderland) will be the first milk factory in the Netherlands to supply biogas to the public natural gas network.

De Marke, one of the experimental farms run by Wageningen UR Livestock Research, produces sustainable energy for the farm. The gas is sold to Green Choice. Friesland Campina, which processes the milk from De Marke, buys part of this gas in the form of Green Gas Certificates. Biogas is now often used to drive a generator to release electricity. As such, the residual warmth is not always used to advantage. When the gas is supplied directly, less energy is lost.
