Students protest

Wageningen students protested this week against secretary of state for education Mark Rutteā€™s proposals for legislative changes that would allow students to study for a maximum of eighteen months longer than the official duration of a degree course. If they exceed the allotted time, students will have to pay much higher tuition fees to continue. According to the protesters, Rutte is chasing students away from higher education, and they would be better off going to countries where tuition fees are lower or do not exist at all: Belgium, Germany or Finland. / JH
