Student flats may get green power
Housing office Idealis is looking into whether it is possible for all student accommodation complexes in Wageningen to go over to green electricity.
Head of real estate Bart van As said this in response to the request from Droevendaal residents to renew their contract for green electricity. The current green-energy contract for Droef, as the complex is called, expires at the end of 2008. At the residents’ meeting on 22 November it became clear that the students want Idealis to arrange electricity that is as green as possible, for example based on wind energy.
Idealis will try to honour this request, says Van As, and is looking into whether there are possibilities for other complexes. ‘But if green electricity costs more than electricity from other sources, seventy percent of the residents must be prepared to pay for it.’
