Sports night a mix of serious and crazy games


Thursday 12 November saw the return of the annual sports night at De
Bongerd. After a joint warming up to music (referred to as ‘bommen’ in
Dutch) in the sports hall, the way was open for a night of all sorts of
activities including basketball, ‘knotsbal’, swimming, frisbee, a relay
race and a fight on a giant inflated mattress.

About three hundred students participated, in forty teams, including a
number of international teams. One was a team of second-year MSc students,
who had met during their introductory week last year. They enjoyed the
sports night so much last time that they decided to join in again this
year. Favourite event for many was the Colosseum, where you have to try and
push your opponent off a raised up part of the bouncy castle using an
inflated cushion. Least popular was basketball. “It was nothing special,
