Soil pollution

Alterra is to participate in a large-scale European research project on the effects of the accumulation of toxins in the soil. The EU will invest ten million euros in the project over the coming five years.
Alterra will be involved in three parts of the project, under the leadership of the Danish National Environmental Research Institute NERI, announced researcher Dr Jack Faber. Alterra will examine how much pollution is permissible for different forms of land use, such as nature or agriculture. Alterra will also construct models of the distribution of soil pollution in relation to the spatial use of animals. At the end of the project Alterra will participate in making risk maps, for example for soil type and land use. / MW
