The days of the short cut from the Hoevestein flat through the ditch in the direction of De Bongerd sports centre are numbered.
The almost legendary short-cut, used by generations of sports enthusiasts, will be replaced by a new path with lighting for cyclists and pedestrians, a couple of metres further along. The new path runs along the nearby training field and comes out on the cycle path along the Nijenoord Allee next to the bus stop. It will be a two-way cycle path. Head of De Bongerd Henri ten Klooster adds that this back entrance to the sport park will be closed at night. “By having only one entrance open at night we hope to reduce vandalism.” The work should be completed next week.
