Sharp rise in student numbers expected

Wageningen University expects international student numbers to rise
significantly next year. Based on the number of enrolments received so far,
the office of student affairs estimates that approximately 400 new students
will start an MSc course in September. Last year, there were 318 new MSc
students.

Henk Vegter of student affairs warns that the figures have not yet been
confirmed. “We won’t know for sure about most students till the middle of
August, but we can see already that the number of enrolments is about 30
percent higher than last year. The number of self-paying students is also
rising quite sharply. Based on the information we have so far we expect
about 400 students next year, but it can also turn out to be 350 or, who
knows, 450.’’

In addition to the 400 MSc students, Wageningen will for the first time
also enrol ninety international BSc students this coming academic year.
These are Chinese students following a joint course at the Chinese
Agricultural University and Wageningen University. They have already
followed a two-year programme in Beijing and will continue their training
in Wageningen.
