Science article

Researchers at Plant Research International and the Laboratory of Entomology have managed to use a gene from the strawberry to induce the plant Arabidopsis to emit an odour that attracts bodyguards in the form of predatory mites. This opens up possibilities for letting crops ‘cry for help’ from these bodyguards when they are attacked by spider mites. The research, led by Dr Iris Kappers, is the result of a fortunate collision of two lines of research, and resulted in an article in Science, published on 23 September. / GvM
