Rower Van der Sluis is sportsman of the year

On Monday 18 January rower Jolmer van der Sluis was named Wageningen sportsman of 2009.

The Argonaut won various prizes with the Dutch lightweight eight last year, including bronze at the World Championships in Poznan.
Van der Sluis was pleased with the trophy but he doesn't just row for the prizes. 'I row because I enjoy it and because I want to beat the rest.' His sport has turned into a full-time activity but he does intend completing his biology degree course one day. The goal next season: the European Championships in Portugal and the World Championships in New Zealand. 'But I've no idea with which boat.'
