PhD workshop

Wageningen University hosted the European PhD workshop on 22 and 23 September for eighty young social scientists working on food, agriculture, environment and development.
PhD researchers came from fourteen European countries. A wide range of interests was represented, from consumer research on food safety, policy making for micro-credit in Ethiopia, on obesity in Vietnam and social security in Rwanda, to the effects of Turkey and Romania joining the EU. Dr Alison Burrell, one of the organisers, commented on the enthusiasm not only of the young researchers, but also of the senior researchers from the US, Canada and Europe who had been invited to sit on the discussion panels. / JT
