Peter Frans + sail-flying

It is amazing how fast the landscape shrinks

It is know as sail-flying in Dutch, which seems appropriate. Hang-gliders sail through the air, just like the birds around them, only with somewhat larger wings. Peter Frans de Jong, plant protection researcher at PPO Fruit in Randwijk, has a wingspan of ten metres. Fifteen square metres of sail with which to soar on the thermals. At the moment his flights last nog more than a few minutes, as he is practising take-off and landing for his second badge. But he still gets a big kick out of it.
