Online database on helpful insects

Wageningen researchers doing applied research on plants have expanded Beeldenbank , an online image database on diseases and pests in agriculture and horticulture, with a new category: the natural enemies of pest insects.

The name 22 groups of helpful insects which are parasites of harmful insects or devour them. These natural enemies are in the Beeldenbank at the Groen Kennisnet [green knowledge network], which seeks to pass on up-to-date knowledge to green educational institutions, companies and policymakers. The applied researchers explain, for example, which pest insects are attacked by ladybirds, millipedes and spiders. Many people are not aware of the distinction between harmful and helpful insects.
