Student society Di-et-tri comprises ninety percent women. Its 'Internal Integration Committee' arranges for parties in other student towns. This year, its members went to the desperate men of Thor - with only 13 women among 600 students - in Eindhoven.
The other half
Within ten minutes, the ice was broken. People chatted happily and beer flowed freely. Before long, the first dancers were swaying on the bar. For the boys who could not find their lights, the deejay came to the rescue. Two helpless youths stood waiting in front of the room for their other halves, accompanied by the song 'Killing me softly' from the loudspeakers.
Last year, the Di-et-tri committee organized an excursion to Delft, its first. According to committee member Anke Willems, that was a big success. 'Besides many casual flings, that had also brought forth a couple.' Committee member Annaberth van der Steege feels that this year will be even better. 'The men were nice and sociable, as we had expected. Are they handsome? I didn't pay attention. I went along as a committee member, of course.'
An optimistic poll on the society website of Thor had predicted that the bus would leave with a number of empty seats. The evening's outcome: four women had kissed, eight had obtained telephone numbers, and all 45 lasses left together. 'But', says Tom Geelen, executive member of Thor, 'I haven't come across anyone who didn't have a good time.'
More photos of the evening can be found on the website of Thor.
