No students on the town council

There are no students on Wageningen's new municipal council. None of the seven candidates for various different parties were directly elected or got enough personal votes.

Beforehand, SP candidate Chris Verweij seemed to have the biggest chance of getting a seat. The first-year student of molecular life sciences was third on the SP's list. But the Socialists lost two of their three seats. None of the other student candidates were standing for safe seats. They would have needed 161 votes to get elected onto the council through personal votes.
The students and their scores:
Peter Veldman (D66): 78
Peter van Kampen (D66): 55
Peter van Beveren (CDA): 30
Chris Verweij (SP): 27
Jillis Herweijer (VVD): 24
Thomas van Rossum (PvdA): 18
Willem Selen (PvdA): 7
