Newborn otter is Russian-Swede

A baby otter has been born in the nature reserve areas of the Wieden and the Weerribben, where Alterra is tracking the recently released otter population.
The baby has a White Russian mother and a Swedish father, according to DNA research on the faeces. The researchers also think that a second baby has been born, with a Czech mother and a White Russian father, but cannot confirm this. The population now totals eight, too small a number to sustain itself. This summer more otters will be released to help the population reach a viable level.
