Twice as many bikes get stolen in Wageningen as in Rotterdam. Amsterdam is also a lot safer for bicycles.
The figures are for recorded crimes so it could also be the case that people in Wageningen report thefts more often than people in Amsterdam or Rotterdam.
Last year, 107 thousand bicycle thefts were recorded for the whole of the Netherlands, which is down considerably on 2009, when nearly 128 thousand thefts were reported.
The number of reported bicycle thefts has fallen in nearly all student towns since 2005. However there has been an increase in bicycle thefts in Middelburg, where the Roosevelt Academy opened its doors in 2004.
