Meerburg on Gelderland council

Bastiaan Meerburg (PRI Lelystad) has been elected to Gelderland Provincial Council.

Meerburg was eleventh on the VVD party's list, so he just scraped in. The VVD went up from nine to eleven seats, making it the biggest party on the Gelderland council. Meerburg has represented the VVD in Wageningen, but he is giving up that role to represent the interests of Food Valley. He says he has no ambitions in the direction of national politics. 'I am a scientist. And scientific depth is not a valued quality in the Hague.' Ingrid Hijman (Education Institute) narrowly missed a place on the council for the labour party.
