Leopold repeats Darwin's voyage

Biologist and seabird expert Mardik Leopold will be following in Darwin’s wake.

The seabird expert from IMARES will be on board the Stad Amsterdam, which is sailing the same course as the HMS Beagle did for the VPRO. The ship left Delfzijl harbour yesterday. It will stop off at Oostende tomorrow and then proceed to Plymouth, where Darwin’s voyage began. Leopold only joins the ship in November. He will be doing research on seabirds in the Patagonian Sea off the coast of South-west Argentina and Patagonia. Local fisheries pose a major threat to seabirds, especially albatrosses. The VPRO will broadcast reports on the voyage from 13 September. ® RK
