LEI in Turkey

LEI and Wageningen International will assist the Turkish agricultural economics institute in its preparations for Turkey joining the EU.

In a 2005 study, researchers from Wageningen UR concluded that the Turkish agricultural sector needs to improve on a number of points if it is to be ready to join the EU in 2015. The agricultural organisations responsible for extension and research need to modernise. The Dutch Ministry of Agriculture will finance a project in which researchers from LEI and Wageningen International assist researchers at the Turkish agricultural economics institute in Ankara to improve research methods, statistical analyses and agricultural extension. In addition, four sector studies will be carried out this spring to examine Turkey’s competitive potential.
