Malaria expert Dr. Bart Knols left the Entomology chair group on 1 April. Knols won the 2006 Ig Nobel Prize for a study of the female malaria mosquito’s attraction to the smell of human feet and that of Limburger cheese, and a year later was elected international MBA student of the year.

Knols has terminated his temporary contract early, in consultation with Professor Marcel Dicke. Neither Knols nor Dicke wish to make a statement about the reasons for his unexpected departure. In April, Knols took up a post as guest staff member in the Tropical Diseases department of Amsterdam Medical Centre. ‘I want to keep on publishing on malaria research’, he says. He also has his own consultancy firm in the field of tropical diseases.
