Japan seeks experts in Food Valley

Japanese food companies are looking for functional foods experts in Wageningen Food Valley who want to set up joint cooperation between Dutch organisations and Japanese companies, the prefecture of Osaka in western Japan announced recently.

Osaka has created a fund to cover the costs of joint cooperation agreements between organisations in Food Valley and Japanese businesses. The Japanese approached the Food Valley Society about potential partners. The Japanese initiative is in response to Japanese national policy to use functional foods to help keep the ageing population as healthy as possible, and to prevent osteoporosis, hardening of the arteries, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, caries and stomach complaints. Small and medium enterprises in Japan are having difficulty in translating their bio-active substances into safe and appealing foods. They are looking to Wageningen for know-how on food safety, taste analysis and product design.
