Inquiry into high food prices

Executive Board president Aalt Dijkhuizen has asked a group of researchers to make an analysis of the causes of the current high food prices.

This is in response to a request by the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature Management and Food Quality, which needs to know how to deal with the situation. Spokesman for the Executive Board, Simon Vink, explained that the report will start with an overview of the causes of the relatively sudden rise in world food prices. The researchers will then make a survey of technologies that could be used to produce enough food in the future. A third chapter will be devoted to policy and institutions that play a role in the process. Finally a number of scenarios will be worked out for future food price developments.
