Indian ambassador visits Wageningen

Indian ambassador visits Wageningen

The Indian ambassador to the Netherlands Ms Shyamala Cowsik (second from left in the photo) visited Wageningen UR on November 21. Just three months into the job, she expressed enthusiasm about current and future cooperation between Wageningen UR and Indian partners. During an informal meeting with students she said she was impressed both by the network Wageningen researchers have in India and by the Indian community within Wageningen UR. Currently joint projects are running in the fields of biotechnology, irrigation and animal husbandry. After seeing presentations on different research areas of Wageningen UR, the ambassador mentioned that the Indian government plans to invest more in biotechnology in the future. She advised the university however not to rely on commercial brokers to attract Indian students, as it currently does. Commercial brokers are distrusted by Indian students as they are employed by institutions of lesser quality as well, she said.
