Student - September 1, 2011

Doing gymnastics on the back of a galloping horse is a recognized sport. A top sport even at VHL, which has launched a talent-grooming programme for equestrian vaulting.

In this initiative by equestrian vaulter and VHL student Koen Akkerman, the applied sciences university and the vaulters are joining forces to make a bid for the top. The lads are getting extra training and coaching from top sportspeople in the field. The aim is to win prizes, starting with the international vaulting competition in Ermelo next year. The programme will be part of the Equine Talent Squad at VHL, intended for talented dressage riders and show jumpers. The equestrian vaulting team will be presented during the Hippiade on Saturday 3 September.
