Holiday tips

If you are planning to cook at Christmas it’s good to know that there will be a market on Friday 24 December, instead of the usual Saturday market. The student chaplaincy will hold a Christmas Eve church service for international students on Friday evening 24 December at 22.30 in ‘Ons Huis’ community centre, Harnjesweg 84. If you feel like partying, check out the websites of your favourite club for their programme. Unitas will be open on Sunday night, 26 December. Good news is that sports centre De Bongerd will be open every afternoon and evening, except on official holidays (23 - 26 December and 31 December - 2 January). Sports lessons start again on 10 January. On New Year’s Eve the Dutch let off fireworks at midnight. You can buy your own in hardware stores. If the weather is clear on the 31st, you should have a good view of fireworks over the whole town from the sterflats. If you want to celebrate New Year’s Eve in a pub in town you need to buy a ticket in advance. The same applies to Unitas. / YdH
