Herbarium scores well

An international inspection committee has declared the quality of the National Herbarium of the Netherlands (NHN) very good to excellent. The National Herbarium was formed in 1999, when three herbaria in Leiden, Utrecht and Wageningen merged. The committee praised the synergy and renewal that has taken place since then, but warned for the weakness of being financed by four independent sponsors, the three universities involved and the ministry of education and science. The Faculty of Biology at Utrecht University is considering getting rid of its herbarium.
