Hans Westra, teacher of English at Leeuwarden, 'A way of relaxing'
He makes the most beautiful artefacts out of discarded wood retrieved from dustbins. 'I never buy wood', says Hans Westra, a self-made sculptor. What he does is to bring out the image that he sees in the wood. To tell a story. Heads, masks, mythical birds. 'Making something beautiful out of rubbish', is his own way of describing it. 'To calm down.' Take a look at www.gafpa.nl.
