Professor Louise Vet, chair of Evolutionary Ecology at Wageningen University and director of the Netherlands Institute for Ecology (NIOO-KNAW), is the first Wageningen woman to be elected a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
Vet is one of the sixteen new KNAW members, elected by the current members on the advice of members of the scientific community. It is a prestigious appointment based on academic performance. There are two hundred members of the organisation, whose main task is to advise the government on scientific developments. KNAW consists of seventeen institutes, including NIOO-KNAW of which Vet is director.
