Fire at Bassecour

Consternation at the Salverdaplein. A raging fire destroyed on Thursday evening an apartment in the Bassecour, right next to the old main building of the former Wageningen Agricultural University.

The fire attracted a lot of attention. To the left, next to the source of the fire, is the middle portion of the old main building.
The fire could be traced to an accident involving an oxygen bottle in one of the new wings of the former main building. The occupant of the apartment was given the oxygen by a family doctor when something went wrong. The woman, the doctor and his chauffeur were wounded as a result. The surrounding apartments belonging to housing agency Idealis were evacuated out of precaution, but these were spared.
