Extra ICT costs debatable

The VHL employees' council protested last week against the rising costs of ICT. But the amounts cannot be compared, says the Executive Board.

The reported amount of 1.4 million euros - claimed to be the annual increase in the cost of ICT services incurred by Van Hall Larenstein - can't be right, says Simon Vink, spokesman for the Executive Board of Wageningen UR. 'The amounts used by the employees' council for comparison cannot be compared in that way. The different expenditure items have to be looked at properly. The ICT department is doing this currently.'
Only when the financial picture becomes clearer will the Executive Board give an answer to the joint employees' council's letter, stresses Vink. 'We want to do a good financial comparison and the employees' council can inspect that too.'
The VHL joint employees' council sent a letter last week to the Executive Board to protest against the higher costs which the applied sciences university has been paying since ICT services are provided by Wageningen UR.
