Excellence grant

The EU has awarded a Marie Curie Excellence Grant Wageningen environmental technologist Dr Piet Lens.Lens will receive 1.7 million euros to finance his own research group for the next four years, to carry out a programme also conceived by him. The grant is enough for a project leader, a postdoctoral position and three AIO places. The selection procedure was tough, with only 11 percent gaining success. Lens and his international group plan to improve the processes for using bacteria to extract heavy metals and sulphur from polluted soil, process- and waste-water using bacteria.
