EU supports research link with North Korea

The European Union has approved a Wageningen Plant sciences project in North Korea.

Over the next three years, the plant scientists will be developing potatoes with long-term resistance to Phytophthora. As part of the project, two North Koreans will do a PhD course in the Plant Sciences Group. And Wageningen International will help improve field management in North Korea so that potato diseases will be identified and tackled faster.
The research plan was written early in September by Maarten Jongsma, Evert Jacobsen and Siert Wiersma, who worked on it with North Korean counterparts during a seven-day visit to North Korea. Read more about the visit in Maarten Jongsma's diary.
