City of Insects

The Dutch minister of science and education Maria van der Hoeven (centre) visited Wageningen for the opening of the insect festival ‘Wageningen – City of Insects,’ on Monday, 18 September.

She was welcomed by entomology professor Marcel Dicke, one of the initiators of the festival. The minister received the first copy of a popular science book on insect research and a mealworm-quiche ‘for the road.’ Before getting to the drinks and insect bites the guests in the auditorium were also entertained by a live musical performance on insects.
The City of Insects festival will end this Saturday afternoon, 24 September, with an attempt to set a world record for insect eating. An English programme including more than 50 activities is available at www.cityofinsects.nl/UK.
