Last Saturday the Chinese population in Wageningen celebrated the Spring
Festival. Two hundred people attended the New Year’s Party that was
organised by the newly established Association for Chinese Students and
Scholars in Wageningen (CASSW).
Chinese students in Wageningen recently founded this branch of the national
organisation of Chinese Students and Scholars in the Netherlands. By
January this year the club had more than 250 members, all connected to
Wageningen UR as MSc and PhD students, visiting scientists, postdocs,
scholars and their families. CASSW Vice President Dr Ling Qin, who works at
the Laboratory of Nematology, explains that the aim of the organisation is
to help the Chinese students and scholars adapt to their new environment.
“Through websites, lectures and other activities we inform them about local
culture and conventions. We also want to promote communication and
