Chinese award

Chinese premier Wen Jia-Bao announced that Professor Evert Jacobsen has been awarded the Chinese National Award of International Cooperation on Sciences and Technology. Jacobsen, who works at the Laboratory of Plant Genetics in Wageningen, is one of six scientists that according to the Chinese government have played an important role in the development of science and technology in China. Jacobsen has worked for many years with Chinese research institutes. He was involved in helping to set up a new genomics laboratory and also in a genomics project on vegetables. He also involved the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in the worldwide research project for mapping the genetic code of the potato. / KV
