Cheaper paper from auction

Facilities management has made savings by buying its copying paper through an auction. Paper manufacturers could bid through internet for a joint order given by Wageningen UR and a number of municipalities and provincial governments. One of the bigger partners was the City of Amsterdam. A number of selected paper manufacturers could view the lowest bid on a secure website and make a lower bid. The final bid was 27 percent lower than the old price Wageningen UR paid, and it was for better quality paper. René Frielink, head of purchases for facilities management, is satisfied with the result and is now considering buying office furniture and computers through auctions. / KV
