Ceres hosts Animals Day in the bar

It was a bit of a zoo in the Ceres bar last Wednesday. All in honour of Animals Day, 4 October. The building on the Generaal Foulkesweg, where the beer usually flows, looked more like a children’s farm than a student society

A Cers member's pet ferrets were popular
About 200 primary school children from the Wageningen area packed into the bar at the student society to see and stroke rabbits, ferrets, chickens , hamsters, a Shetland pony
and a pig. The animals had all been mustered via members, and some of them came from the various Ceres houses. 'We organized this day because we want to have good relations with Wageningen residents, and also because we think children should learn how important animals are. And then of course it is nice to entertain children', says Martijn Visser of the Animals Day committee. 'The children could have their faces painted, they could watch an animal film, and we made pancakes.'
It was tiring, though, partly because the animals had to be moved inside due to bad weather. Martijn: 'At the end of the day we had to clean the bar thoroughly to get rid of the smell.'
