Attracting funding for research on sustainable development and food security by clustering and presenting the knowledge on these topics within Wageningen UR better. That is the main goal of the new Centre for Sustainable Development and Food Security.
The centre was established on the initiative of university professor Rudy Rabbinge, and links into a global policy dialogue. The idea is that it will help to draw finding for Wageningen UR by contributing to large international initiatives. The centre also provides interdisciplinary university education and doctoral research on sustainable development and food security.
Bram Huijsman, director of the new centre: 'Wageningen UR is going to give itself a clearer profile within international institutions and global forums.' The centre is not just an organizational reshuffle of existing work, Huijsman emphasizes. 'It really is a new initiative to bring together Wageningen UR's work in this field and showcase it better.'
Roughly ten part-time workers make up the core team at the centre , which works from the Social Sciences Group and is advised on content-related matters by a group of professors. Wageningen International remains the front office for international relations for Wageningen UR.
