Bronze for Argo rower

Jolmer van der Sluis won a bronze medal at the World Rowing Championships on Sunday 30 August.

The lightweight men’s eight seemed to be headed for silver at the start of the second kilometre of the finals, when the rowers faced a strong wind and choppy waters. But in the end they couldn’t compete with the Americans’ final spurt. The Italians were in a class of their own at Poznan and clinched the gold again. The Wageningen Biology student, an Argo rower, brought the bronze medal home from last year’s World Championships too./ Yvonne de Hilster
