Brazilians open outpost in Wageningen

The Brazilian research organisation Embrapa opened an office in Wageningen on Monday 16 October. The president of Embrapa, Professor Silvio Crestana, visited Wageningen UR to sign two agreements.

Embrapa is the biggest agricultural and environmental research organisation in Brazil, with more than eight thousand employees in 38 institutes. The Wageningen office is manned by Dr Manoel Souza and is intended to intensify relations between researchers at Wageningen UR and Embrapa. Crestana sees opportunities for collaboration especially in the areas of nature conservation, bio-fuels and genomics. Agreements were signed for joint research on conflicting claims concerning natural resources and banana genomics.
