Twenty university groups received a bonus this summer for the good education they provide.

The twenty best groups received a total of nine hundred thousand euros. Rector Professor Bert Speelman compiled the list personally using the scores given by students in their end of course evaluations over the past two years. Speelman took into account the average scores of the courses, the number of bottlenecks and the number of courses given by a particular group. Top of the list was Plant physiology. Professor Linus van der Plas was pleasantly surprised with his bonus. ‘Our staff were pleased to hear that their efforts were appreciated. To tell you the truth though I was a little embarrassed when I heard that groups we often work together with were not among the prize winners.’ Now he has to think up a good way to let all the groups benefit from the 50,000 euros bonus.
